Even though the FDA has not provided official guidelines related to CBD, one thing they have made very clear is they are not allowing medical claims to be made. To promote the highest safety for consumer products, the FDA looks very closely at companies that may make medical claims regarding their products that contain CBD. Regardless of the validity of any claims made, the law requires that businesses stay within a certain parameters to ensure that no false or misleading information is being spread to consumers. Although there is much information that cannot be discussed due to liability concerns, there is still an abundance of information and education businesses can offer to their consumers. Here we will discuss why it’s important to guide your customers on CBD.


Even with a reputable and high-quality product, businesses will struggle to sell the number of units they hoped for if they do not appeal to their information-seeking customers. Although it seems like a large portion of the information that can be offered has been limited, there is still a large amount of helpful information your customers can utilize when making a decision about a product.

Some phrases you are allowed to say are things such as:

  • Supports the immune system
  • Aids in recovery
  • Promotes relaxation
  • Balances mood
  • Aids in easing discomfort
  • Nourishes skin
  • Reduces stress
  • Relieves tension and stiffness
  • Enhances clarity and focus
  • Assists in a better night’s rest
  • Etc.

To be even more specific, words you can use when giving information to your customers (as long as it is not implication to a disease claim) are things such as:

  • Stimulates
  • Maintains
  • Supports
  • Enhances
  • Promotes
  • Compliments

Now that you know what phrases you can and cannot say, it is time to discuss the information you are allowed to give that is also effective and important for customers when choosing which products, they wish to buy and from which business they buy from.


The other information that can be offered to your customers to help them make a decision, while choosing which product is best for them, are things such as quality standards and third party testing.

Lab tests for your products are great things you can add to your website to help customers feel more comfortable with the product they are purchasing. Any type of information that pertains to certificate and product quality are good pieces of information that make all the difference in enhancing your products reputation.
